Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the transmission oil.
3. Remove the propeller shaft.
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (Rear)
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Rear)
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (4WD Models-Front)

4. Remove the parking brake.
5. Remove the yoke nut and the washers.
6. Remove the yoke.
7. Remove the extension oil seal.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J 22834 Extension Housing Seal Installer

1. Using the J 22834, install a new extension oil seal.
2. Install the yoke.
3. Install the washers and the yoke nut.
- Tighten the yoke nut to 441 Nm (325 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the parking brake, if the vehicle is equipped.
5. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to the applicable procedure in Propeller Shaft:
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (Rear)
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Rear)
- Propeller Shaft Replacement (4WD Models-Front)

6. Replace the transmission oil.
7. Lower the vehicle.
