Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Partially drain the coolant.
2. Remove the air cleaner and the duct assembly.
3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
4. Remove the upper fan shroud.
5. Remove the fan and the clutch from the engine.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt.
7. Remove the coolant pump pulley retaining bolts and the pulley.





8. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant pump.
9. Disconnect the by-pass hose from the coolant pump.





10. Remove the coolant pump retaining bolts.
11. Remove the coolant pump and the gasket.
12. Clean the coolant pump mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the gasket and the coolant pump.
2. Install the coolant pump retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts on the to 45 Nm (33 inch lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Connect the by-pass hose to the coolant pump.





4. Connect the lower radiator hose to the coolant pump.





5. Install the coolant pump pulley.
6. Install the fan and the clutch to the engine.
7. Install the accessory drive belt.
8. Install the upper fan shroud.
9. Install the coolant recovery reservoir.
10. Install the air cleaner and the duct assembly.
11. Refill the coolant.
12. Bleed the air from the cooling system.
13. Inspect the system for coolant leaks.
