Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tools Required
- J 23523-F Balancer Remover and Installer
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the fan shroud assembly.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.
6. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
7. Use the J 23523-F to remove the crankshaft balancer.
NOTICE: To prevent damage to the end of the crankshaft when using a crankshaft balancer removal too[ install a bolt in the crankshaft. Use a shorter bolt with the same threads as the crankshaft balancer bolt. This bolt will allow a place for the tool to push against. The shorter bolt is to keep from going past the threads in the crankshaft and damaging the crankshaft threads.
8. Clean and inspect all parts. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Clean and Inspect under Engine Unit Repair.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 23523-F Balancer Remover and Installer
1. Use J 23523-F to install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation under Engine Unit Repair.
2. Install the crankshaft pulley.
3. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
4. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
4.1. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
4.2. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Install the drive belt.
6. Install the fan shroud assembly.
7. Connect the battery negative cable.
