Magnasteer/Variable Effort Steering (VES)
DTC C0559 - EEPROM Checksum Error Diagnostic Table:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The EVO/Passlock Module calibrations are stored in the EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). The EVO/Passlock Module performs internal tests on the EEPROM and will indicate if any calibration faults (checksum errors) are current.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
When an internal calibration failure (checksum error) is detected by the EVO/Passlock Module, a code will set.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The EVO/Passlock Module will not send any current to the Steering Assist Control Solenoid. This will result in the Steering Assist Control Solenoid valve to retract providing maximum fluid flow at all times.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
After the ignition is cycled no internal calibration faults (checksum errors) are indicated by the EVO/Passlock Module, or when the EVO/Passlock Module is properly programmed.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The EEPROM is not removable from the EVO/Passlock Module. If service is required, the module must be replaced.
TEST DESCRIPTION
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the EEPROM CHECKSUM ERROR DIAGNOSTIC TABLE.
^ Step 1 makes sure the Diagnostic System Check is completed.
^ Step 2 checks if the EVO/Passlock Module was previously replaced.
