Circuit Description

This diagnostic test checks for the Enable Password Learning Flag indicating the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) is in learn password mode. This mode allows the VCM to learn the password from the Vehicle Theft Deterrent control module at assembly or when being serviced. The password needs to be learned whenever the VCM or the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) control module is replaced.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

When the Enable Learning Flag Is set.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The Malfunction indicator Lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

1. A history DTC will clear if no fault conditions have been detected for 40 warm-up cycles (coolant temperature has risen 22°C (40°F) from the start-up coolant temperature and the engine coolant temperature exceeds 70°C (160°F) during the same ignition cycle.

2. Use the scan tool Clear Information function.

3. Disconnect the VCM battery feed for 30 seconds.

Diagnostic Aids

The VCM in learn mode is a DTC for the vehicle at the assembly plant, dealership and outside garage personnel as an indication that the learn mode is enabled. This means the VCM is now ready to learn a new password.
