Cylinder Head - Installation

^ Tool Required
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter, or equivalent





1. Install the cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the gasket over the locating pins, with the yellow side of the tab on the outboard side facing up.





3. Install the cylinder head over the locating pins and the gasket.





4. Install the cylinder head bolts finger tight.





5. Tighten the cylinder head bolts.
^ Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown, on the first pass tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
6. Use the torque angle meter in order to tighten the bolts on the second pass.
^ Tighten the short bolts (11, 7, 3, 2, 6, 10) 55°.
^ Tighten the medium bolts (12, 13) 65°.
^ Tighten the long bolts (1, 4, 8, 5, 9) 75°.
7. Install the spark plugs.
^ Tighten them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





8. Install the pushrods.
9. Install the following components to the left cylinder head:
a. The electrical connector at the coolant temperature sensor.
b. The air conditioning compressor and bracket. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
10. Install the generator and bracket to the right cylinder head. Refer to Powertrain management.





11. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.





12. Install the intake manifold. Service and Repair
