B1026

When measurements are requested in this table, use J 39200 Digital Multimeter with correct terminal adapter from J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit. When a check for proper connection is requested, refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections in Diagrams. When a wire, connector or terminal repair is requested, use J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit and refer to Wiring Repair.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When an opening in the driver inflatable restraint steering wheel inflator module or the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil exists, the resistance between the Driver Side High terminal B9 and the Driver Side Low terminal B8 increases. This causes a larger voltage drop from the Driver Side High to the Driver Side Low across a resistor inside the inflatable restraint Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) which connects the two terminals together. The DERM detects the voltage increase between these two terminals during the Continuous Monitoring tests and sets the DTC B1026.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The DTC set when the voltage difference between the Driver Side High terminal B9 and the Driver Side Low terminal B8 measures above or equal a specified value for 500 milliseconds.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The DERM turns on the AIR BAG warning lamp and sets a diagnostic trouble code.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
The DTC clears when the voltage difference between the Driver Side High terminal B9 and the Driver Side Low terminal B8 measures below a specified value for 500 milliseconds.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
This diagnostic trouble code only sets when:
- An improper connection of the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column
- An improper connection of the yellow 2-way connector at the top of the steering column
- An open inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil
- An open inflator module

Test Description
Refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.
1. Start at the SIR Diagnostic System Check for all diagnosis.
7. This test determines whether a steering column malfunction is occurring.
8. This test determines whether the malfunction is occurring in the inflatable restraint steering wheel inflator module or the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
