Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVALNOTE: The engine front cover gasket is reusable. Replace only if the gasket is damaged.
1. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
2. Remove the water pump. Refer to Cooling System.
3. Remove the oil pan.
^ Drop the front of the oil pan down to remove the engine front cover.
4. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
5. Remove the engine front cover and the gasket.
6. Remove the engine front cover seal from the engine front cover.
^ Pry the engine front cover seal out with a screwdriver.
^ Take care not to distort the engine front cover.
7. Clean the old gasket and the engine front cover.
8. Inspect the engine front cover for distortion and damage. Replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION
^ Tools Required
- J 22102 Oil Seal Installer, or equivalent
1. Coat the crankshaft front seal lips with clean engine oil.
2. Use the oil seal installer in order to Install the crankshaft front seal. The open end of the Crankshaft front seal faces inside the engine.
3. Install the engine front cover gasket to the: engine front cover.
4. Install the engine front cover.
5. Install the engine front cover bolts to the engine.
^ Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
6. Install the oil pan.
7. Install the water pump. Refer to Cooling System.
8. Install the crankshaft balancer.
