Camshaft Clean and Inspect

Preliminary Procedure
1. Clean the camshaft bearing bores in the block.
2. Inspect camshaft bearings for damage. Replace as necessary.
3. Inspect the camshaft lobes and the journals for damage. Minor irregularities may be cleaned up with an emery cloth.

Measuring Procedure

- J 7872 Dial Indicator, Or Equivalent

NOTE: Whenever the camshaft needs to be replaced, a new set of valve roller lifters must also be installed.






1. Measure the camshaft journal diameters using a micrometer.





2. Measure the camshaft runout.
(1) Mount the camshaft in V-blocks or between centers.
(2) Use the dial indicator in order to check the intermediate camshaft journal.
(3) The camshaft runout should not exceed 0.051 mm (0.002 inch).
