Front Engine Plate: Service and Repair
REMOVALNOTE: The front engine cover gasket is reusable.
1. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
2. Remove the water pump.
3. Remove the oil pan.
Drop the front of the oil pan down to remove the engine front cover.
4. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
5. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
6. Remove the engine front cover and the gasket.
7. Remove the engine front cover seal from the engine front cover. Pry the engine front cover seal out with a screwdriver. Take care not to distort the engine front cover.
8. Inspect the engine front cover and engine front cover gasket for distortion and damage. Replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION

- J 22102 Oil Seal Installer
- Or Equivalent
1. Coat the crankshaft front seal lips with clean engine oil.
2. Use the oil seal installer in order to install the crankshaft front seal. The open end of the crankshaft front seal faces inside the engine.
NOTE: Apply RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 to both front corners of the oil pan.
3. Install the engine front cover and gasket to the engine block.
4. Install the engine front cover bolts to the engine.
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Install the oil pan.
6. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
7. Install the water pump.
8. Install the crankshaft balancer.
