Valve Spring: Service and Repair

^ Tools Required
- J-22194 Spark Plug Port Adapter
- J-5892 D Valve Spring Compressor
- J 38606 Valve Spring Compressor
- Or Equivalents

REMOVAL
1. Remove the applicable valve rocker arm cover.
2. Remove the valve rocker arms.
3. Remove the spark plugs.





4. Install the spark plug port adaptor into the spark plug hole.
5. Apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.
6. Install the valve rocker arm nut.





7. Use the valve spring compressor in order to compress the valve spring.





8. Use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) if clearance does not permit use of valve spring compressor (J 5892-D).





9. Remove the valve keys (1).
10. Carefully release the valve spring tension.
11. Remove the valve spring compressor.
12. Remove the cap (2), rotator, and spring (4).
13. Remove the valve seal (3).

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new valve seal (3) over the valve stem and seat, it against the head.
2. Install the cap (2), rotator, and spring (4).
3. Use a valve spring compressor in order to compress the valve spring.





4. Use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) if clearance does not permit use of valve spring compressor (J 5892-D).
5. Install the valve keys (1). Use grease in order to hold the valve keys in place.
6. Carefully release the valve spring pressure, making sure the valve keys stay in place.
7. Remove the valve spring compressor.
8. Install the spark plugs.
9. Install the valve rocker arms.
10. Install the applicable valve rocker arm cover.
