Condition

Some owners may report a vibration/noise from the roof area at highway speeds. This is most noticeable when vehicle speed plus wind speed equals 70 mph or more.

Cause

The front roof rack cross bow is vibrating at the side rail.

Correction

Switch the front and rear cross bows with sliders attached, following the service procedure in Section 9F of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual. This places the thumbwheel attachments for the cross bows in different locations diminishing the vibration/noise.

Notice:
Only hand tools should be used during installation. The use of power tools may result in the cross-threading of mounting fasteners, nicks and scratches of component parts.
