Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove two screws on side of instrument panel extension, Fig. 7.
3. Remove two nuts on bottom of instrument panel extension.
4. Remove extension from instrument panel by pulling rearward to release fasteners.
5. Disconnect electrical harness.
6. Remove floor air outlets as follows:
a. Remove windshield defrost grille from instrument panel.
b. Remove fasteners from instrument panel to defrost nozzle.
c. Remove one screw on instrument panel carrier.
d. Rotate defrost nozzle down and away from instrument panel carrier.

e. Remove two screws holding floor outlet duct to instrument panel carrier, Figs. 8 through 10.
f. Remove side glass defrost ducts, then the air outlet assembly.
7. Loosen bolts on engine cover and rotate brackets aside.
8. Disconnect latches and remove screws.

9. Remove driver and passenger instrument panel knee bolster screws and pull rearward to release fasteners, Figs. 11 and 12.
10. Disconnect parking brake lever.
11. Disconnect steering column harness by removing one bolt in center of connector and releasing upper and lower fasteners.

12. Support steering column and remove two upper/two lower mounting bolts, Fig. 13. Do not remove or rotate the steering column, as damage to the SIR coil may occur.
13. Remove right and left cowl side panel trim retaining screws and remove panel trim.
14. Remove power door lock delay relay from right trim panel.

15. Remove two instrument panel to carrier bolts from each side of instrument panel Fig. 14.
16. Disconnect brake switch connector.
17. Remove fuse panel to cowl attaching screws.
18. Remove cover to bulkhead connector nuts.
19. Remove screws holding harness to bulkhead.
20. Disconnect bulkhead connector.
21. Remove convenience center, mini-fuse panel and bulkhead from cowl.
22. Remove heater core cover and air distributor assembly.
23. Disconnect instrument panel harness from instrument panel.
24. Slide instrument panel harness away from cowl and lift up and off pivot points.
25. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque two bolts retaining instrument panel to carrier to 33 lb ft
b. Torque two upper and two lower steering column mounting bolts to 22 lb ft
