Hesitation or Stalls on Acceleration

Definition: Momentary lack of response as the accelerator is pushed down. Can occur at any vehicle speed. Usually most severe when accelerating from a stop. May cause the vehicle to stall if severe enough.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION

Poor or contaminated fuel ^ Check for excessive alcohol content. Alcohol/Contaminants-In-Fuel Testing Procedure
^ Recommend higher grade fuel.



Fuel Metering ^ Check air/fuel ratio, (O2 Sensor Voltage). Perform Oxygen Sensor Test in COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS/DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURES.
^ Check fuel pressure. Testing and Inspection
^ Perform injector service (cleaning).



Faulty Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) ^ Check TPS for binding or sticking. Voltage rate should move evenly and steadily as throttle is moved toward Wide Open Throttle (WOT).



Faulty evaporative emission control ^ Check canister purge system.
