Removal and Replacement
1. Raise hood and cover fenders.2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Remove air intake duct.
4. Disconnect cruise control cable at throttle body & vacuum hoses at cruise control servo, then remove servo assembly.
5. Disconnect shift control linkage at manual shaft and remove shift control linkage mounting bracket at transaxle.
6. Disconnect wiring connectors at transaxle neutral start/backup lamp switch, transaxle electrical connector and vehicle speed sensor.
7. Disconnect vacuum modulator hose at modulator.
8. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. loosen fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure.
b. Connect fuel pressure gauge tool No. J-34730-1, or equivalent, to fuel pressure connection, then connect a bleed hose to gauge and open valve to release fuel pressure.
9. Disconnect fuel lines from rail and mounting bracket.
10. Drain engine coolant, then remove radiator, cooling fan and heater hoses.
11. Disconnect throttle cables from throttle body and mounting bracket.
12. Disconnect transaxle cooler lines at transaxle.
13. Remove torque strut and bracket.
14. Disconnect center relay wiring, ECM main wiring harness and fuel vapor canister hoses.
15. Disconnect battery cables from engine ground and starter.
16. Remove serpentine belt.
17. Disconnect air conditioning compressor from mounting bracket and secure to lower tie bar.
18. Disconnect power steering lines from body-side frame rail.
19. Disconnect engine wiring from engine.
20. Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front tire and wheel assemblies
21. Remove stabilizer shaft assembly.
22. Disconnect tie rod ends and lower ball joints from steering knuckles.
23. Disconnect both drive axles from transaxle and tie up out of the way.
24. Remove intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt.
25. Remove starter and flywheel inspection covers.
26. Remove torque converter bolts.
27. Disconnect exhaust pipe at rear manifold.
28. Support engine/transaxle/frame assembly from bottom.
29. Remove frame bolts and disconnect transaxle mounts.
30. Remove exhaust crossover pipe.
31. Remove transaxle to engine bolts. One bolt is located between transaxle case and engine block and is installed in the opposite direction.
32. Remove transaxle assembly.
33. Reverse procedure to install.
