Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

COMPRESSOR

Compressor defects can appear as noise, seizures, leakage or low discharge pressures. Resonant compressor noises are normal; however, irregular noise or rattles may indicate broken parts or wear. To check seizure, de-energize the magnetic clutch and rotate the drive plate. If rotation is impossible the compressor is seized.

To check for a leak, refer to With A/C / Refrigerant System General Diagnosis / Leak Testing. Testing and Inspection

NOTICE: A faulty internal seal, a restriction or an insufficient refrigerant charge can cause a low discharge pressure. Check before servicing.
