Valve Cover - Typical:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery negative cable.
2. AIR hose (if necessary).
3. Hoses, wires and pipe bracket.
4. Spark plug wires and two retaining studs.
5. Valve cover nuts (1) and reinforcements (2).
6. Valve cover and gasket.

CAUTION If the cover sticks to the head, bump the end of the cover. If the cover still does not come loose, carefully pry until loose. DO NOT DISTORT THE SEALING FLANGE.

CLEAN
^ All traces of old gasket from the valve cover and cylinder head.

INSPECT
^ Valve cover sealing surfaces for distortion. Replace if necessary.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Valve cover and gasket.
2. Valve cover nuts (1) and reinforcements (2).
Tighten
^ Nuts (1) to 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.).
7. Spark plug wires and clips to the retaining studs.
4. Hoses, wires, and pipe bracket.
5. AIR hose (if removed).
6. Battery negative cable.
