Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Fig. 15 Timing pulley housing upper & lower covers:





UPPER

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. If equipped with power steering, remove P/S pump reservoir.
3. Remove upper fan shroud and cooling fan.
4. Loosen accessory drive belts, then remove fan drive pulley.
5. Remove timing pulley housing upper cover, Fig. 15, view A.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

LOWER

1. Remove timing pulley housing upper cover as described above.
2. Remove alternator belt.
3. Align crankshaft pulley TDC mark with pointer, Fig. 16, then remove crankshaft pulley. Refer to ``Crankshaft Pulley, Replace.''
4. Remove timing pulley housing lower cover, Fig. 15, view B.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
