Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster. Position the hose aside.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the front section of the supercharger inlet duct assembly. Refer to Supercharger Inlet Duct Assembly Replacement (Supercharger Inlet Duct Assembly Replacement).
5. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube from the left camshaft cover.
6. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief (With CH 48027) (Fuel Pressure Relief (With CH 48027))Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027) (Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027)).
7. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail. Position the fuel line aside. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment (Service and Repair).
8. Disengage the wire harness retainers from the camshaft cover.
9. Remove the left bank ignition coils as an assembly. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 2 (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the bolt connecting the ground strap to the left rear corner of the camshaft cover.
11. Remove the bolt securing the oil level indicator tube to the left cylinder head and reposition the tube away from the camshaft cover.
12. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
13. Lift the camshaft drive end of the camshaft cover up.
14. Remove the camshaft cover.
15. Discard the camshaft cover gasket and spark plug port seals if there is any evidence of damage or if the seal comes out of the groove in the cover during removal.
16. Clean and inspect the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection ().

Installation Procedure

Note: Be careful to prevent the exposed section of the camshaft cover gasket from being damaged by the edge of the cylinder head casting.

1. Work the camshaft cover into position by pivoting the cover down and aligning the bolt holes.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the camshaft cover bolts installing the ground strap to the camshaft cover and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Rotate the oil level indicator tube back into its original position and install the bolt securing the tube to the cylinder head and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
4. Install the left bank ignition coil assembly. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 2 (Service and Repair).
5. Attach the wire harness retainers to the camshaft cover.
6. Connect the fuel line to the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment (Service and Repair).
7. Install the PCV fresh air tube to the left camshaft cover.
8. Install the front section of the supercharger inlet duct assembly. Refer to Supercharger Inlet Duct Assembly Replacement (Supercharger Inlet Duct Assembly Replacement).
9. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Connect the vacuum hose to the brake booster.
11. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
