Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement




Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement (LH2) (4.6L)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement (Front Air Deflector Replacement).
2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe clip bracket nut from the power steering pump.
5. Reposition the pipe clip bracket.




6. Loosen the fitting and remove the power steering gear inlet hose from the power steering pump.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the left side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (STS) (Service and Repair)Engine Splash Shield Replacement (STS-V) (Service and Repair).




10. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose to frame mounting bolts.




11. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose to power steering gear retaining bolt.




12. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose from the power steering gear.
13. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the power steering gear.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to power steering gear retaining bolt and tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).




3. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to frame mounting bolts and tighten to 10 Nm (88 lb in).
4. Install the left side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (STS) (Service and Repair)Engine Splash Shield Replacement (STS-V) (Service and Repair).
5. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
6. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement (Front Air Deflector Replacement).
7. Lower the vehicle.




8. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the power steering pump. Tighten the fitting to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
9. Install the pipe clip bracket to the pump.
10. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe clip bracket nut and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
