Shift Control Linkage Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the intermediate pipe assembly.
3. Remove the driveline closeout panel.
Important: Care should be used while handling the shift cable. The cable rod end guide tube is very unflexible.
4. Disconnect the shift control cable from the floor shift ball stud 3.
5. Remove the retainer clip 1 securing the forward portion of the cable housing to the tunnel bracket 3.
6. Remove the retaining clip 1 securing the rear portion of the cable housing 2 to the transmission bracket 3
7. Remove the cable 2 assembly from the transmission bracket 3.
8. Disconnect the shift control 1 from the transmission shift lever ball stud 2.
Important: Care should be used while handling the shift cable assembly. The cable rod ends guide tube is not flexible.
9. Remove the shift control cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Important: Care should be used when the shift cable is guided between the brake lines and the torque tube to ensure the cable rod end guide tube is not pinched.
1. Guide the shift cable assembly into the body tunnel.
2. Position the foam spacer 2 above the fuel feed lines. DO NOT allow the foam spacer to come in contact with the fuel lines.
3. Place the cable assembly 5 into the funnel bracket 1 located behind the floor shift control.
4. Install the retainer 4 into the cable assembly.
5. Secure the cable assembly to the ball stud 3 on the floor shift control.
6. Place the rear portion of the cable assembly 2 through the transmission bracket 3.
7. Secure the cable assembly to the transmission bracket with the retainer 1.
8. Secure the cable assembly 1 to the ball stud on the transmission shift lever 2.
9. With the shiftier and transmission in the NEUTRAL position, adjust the shift control cable.
