DISTANCE SENSING CRUISE CONTROL AIMING PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 45442 Distance Sensing Cruise Control (DSCC) Aiming Tool.

DSCC AIMING SET UP PROCEDURE

1. The area needed for aiming of the DSCC will consist of a vertical wall and a level surface 12.8 m (42 ft) in length (b) and 3.6 m (12 ft) in width (a).

2. The vertical wall must have a clear uninterrupted area approximately 1.5 m (5 ft) high (a) and 3.6 m (12 ft) wide (b). The surface should be finished with a washable non-gloss white paint.

3. Paint a 51 mm (2 in) vertical reference line on the wall 1 m (3 ft) (b) up from the floor and 610 mm (2 ft) (a) from the left edge of the wall.

IMPORTANT: Use a plumb line to achieve a straight line when painting the vertical reference line on the wall.

4. Paint a 51 mm (2 in) reference line at a 90 degree right angle on the floor 11.6 m (38 ft) (a) the distance from the vertical reference line on the wall. Complete the following measuring formula to find the proper location of the reference line.

5. Place a temporary mark on floor (1) at the bottom of the vertical reference line.
6. Use a tape measure to measure 1.8 m (6 ft) (a) to the right of the vertical reference line and make a temporary mark on the floor (2).

7. Measure 2.4 m (8 ft) (a) straight back from the vertical reference line (1), measure 3 m (10 ft) (b) from point (2) and make a temporary mark on the floor (3) where these two measures cross.

8. Measure 11.6 m (38 ft) (a) the distance from the wall from the vertical reference line (1) through the mark on the floor (2).

IMPORTANT: Use a chalk line to establish the proper location of the reference line.

9. Paint a 51 mm (2 in) reference line on the floor 305 mm (1 ft) (b) parallel to the wall, left of the reference line and 8.4 m (27 ft 5.21 in) (a) the distance from the wall to indicate the proper distance for aiming the DSCC.

10. Paint a 51 mm (2 in) circle on the wall to be used as a target. Complete the following to find the proper location of the target.
- Measure 320.72 mm (1 ft 0.63 in) (a) from the floor on the wall for the vertical location.
- Measure 720.13 mm (2 ft 4.35" in) (b) from the outer edge of the 50 mm (2 in) reference line on the wall for the horizon location.
- Draw the 51 mm (2 in) (c) circle on the wall where these two measures cross.
11. Prior to aiming the DSCC , the following steps must be taken.
- The vehicle must be on a level surface.
- Align wheels, if necessary, before aiming the DSCC.
- Inflate the tires to the proper pressure.
- The vehicle must have a full tank of gas.
- The folding top must be in the close position.
- If any service has been performed on the vehicle, make sure that all of the components are back in their original place.
- Remove any snow, ice or mud from the vehicle.
- Stop all other work on the vehicle.
- Do not load any cargo in the vehicle.
- Rock the vehicle in order to stabilize the suspension.

DSCC AIMING PROCEDURE

1. Align the vehicle left side tires to the reference line on the floor (1).

IMPORTANT: In order to assure proper alignment of the DSCC , the vehicle must be aligned to the reference line, as describe below

2. Align the outer edge of the left side tires to the outer edge of the reference line (1).

3. Align the center of the left front tire directly over the reference line parallel (1) to the wall.
4. Open the hood.

5. Remove the left front section (1) of the air cleaner assembly.

6. Remove the DSCC module cover from the front fascia (1).

7. Install J 45442 to the front of the DSCC module (1).

8. Check that the spring tension rods (1) are install in the proper position.

9. Turn the laser beam on (1).

10. Adjust the horizontal aim screw (1) and vertical aim screw (2) of the DSCC module until the laser beam is in the center of the target on the vertical wall (1).

11. Turn off the laser beam (1).
12. Remove J 45442 from the DSCC module.
13. Install the DSCC module cover to the fascia
14. Install the front section of the air cleaner.
15. Close the hood.
