Service Procedure
The following procedure provides instructions for replacing the inside rearview mirror assembly.1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the backside of the inside rearview mirror.
2. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully pry the lower plastic cover away from the middle of the inside of the windshield glass along the left side of the cover.
3. Loosen the screw (3) that secures the mirror (2) to the bracket (1) on the glass.
4. Slide the mirror upward and pull it away to release it from the bracket on the glass.
5. Remove the upper plastic cover from the glass.
6. Install the new mirror on the bracket and install the screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1.8 Nm (16 lb-in).
7. Position the upper plastic cover between the mirror and the headliner and snap into place.
8. Position the lower plastic cover to the mirror and snap into place.
9. Connect the electrical connector to the mirror.
10. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Important:
When the mirror compass is first turned on in the next step, the compass will show two character boxes for approximately two seconds.
11. Press the ON/OFF button on the mirror to turn the compass ON.
12. The compass should now be displaying "C".
Important:
Compass magnetic variation is the difference between the earth's magnetic north and true geographic north. If the compass is not adjusted for magnetic variance the compass could give false readings.
13. Locate your current geographic location on the World Magnetic Variance Map.
14. Turn the ignition key to ON with the engine OFF.
15. Press and hold the ON/OFF switch for the compass until a zone number appears on the compass display. Note: The mirror is set for zone eight upon leaving the factory.
16. Once a zone number appears on the display, press the ON/OFF button quickly until you reach the zone number you want. Release the ON/OFF button and the new zone number will be saved after about 5 seconds.
Important:
Before calibrating the compass in the next step, drive the vehicle to an open area that is magnetically clean or free of large metallic objects such as high-tension lines or large steel buildings. Verify that there are no magnetized roof antennas, magnets on or hanging from the mirror, or any other magnetized objects on the inside or outside of the vehicle close to the mirror.
17. With the letter "C" displayed on the mirror, drive the vehicle in circles at 8 km/h (5 mph) or less until the display reads a direction (N or North as an example). Compass calibration is now complete.
