Front Door Hinge: Service and Repair



Hinge Replacement - Front Door

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door Service and Repair
3. Disconnect the door latch electrical connectors.
4. Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector.
5. Disconnect the front door speaker electrical connector.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness clips from the inner door panel.
7. Pull the rubber conduit and the wiring harness out through the opening at the front of the door.




8. Remove the check link cover (2) at the front body hinge pillar.




9. Remove the check link studs from the front body hinge pillar.
10. Using a grease pencil, mark the position of the hinge on the door.
11. Support the door.
12. Remove the hinge to door nuts.
13. Remove the door, with an assistant.




14. Using a grease pencil, mark the position of the hinge (1) on the pillar.
15. Remove the hinge fasteners (2) from the hinge (1).
16. Remove the hinge.



Installation Procedure





1. Align the windshield pillar half of the hinge (1) with the marks made on the pillar during removal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the hinge-to-pillar fasteners (2).

Tighten the fasteners (2) to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).





3. Install the hinge studplates into the door.
4. Align the door to the hinges, with an assistant.
5. Support the door.
6. Install the hinge to the door nuts (1).

Tighten the hinge to door nuts (1) to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).





7. Position the check link arm to the pillar.
8. Install the check link studs to the pillar.

Tighten the check link studs to 9 N.m (80 lb in).





9. Install the check link cover (2) at the pillar.




10. Route the door wiring harness into the opening at the front of the door.
11. Install the door wiring harness clips to the inner door panel.
12. Connect the door latch electrical connectors.
13. Connect the power window motor electrical connector.
14. Connect the front door speaker electrical connector.

Notice: Striker alignment is a crucial part of door latch operation. Do not use the door striker to adjust the door to the vehicle. Failure to properly adjust the striker can result in damage to the door latch and the striker.

15. Adjust the door for proper alignment. Refer to Door Adjustment (Adjustments).
16. Touch up any damage to the hinge and fasteners with body color paint.
17. Install the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door Service and Repair
18. Install the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door (Service and Repair).
