Oil Pan: Service and Repair
OIL PAN REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the front exhaust manifold pipe.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the engine oil level sensor (1).
4. Remove the engine oil level sensor (1) from the oil pan.
5. Remove the oil pan bolts.
IMPORTANT: The oil pan gasket is reusable unless damaged. Do not remove the gasket from the oil pan groove unless replacement is required.
6. Remove the oil pan.
7. Clean and inspect the oil pan.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. If required, install a new oil pan seal using the following procedure:
1.1. Clean any residual oil from the seal groove.
1.2. Work the seal into the pan groove in both directions around the pan.
2. Position the oil pan to the crankcase.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.
^ TIGHTEN
First Pass: Oil pan bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb in).
Final Pass: Oil pan bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.
4. Install the engine oil level sensor (1) into the oil pan
^ Tighten the engine oil level sensor to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the engine oil level sensor (1).
6. Install the front exhaust manifold pipe.
7. Fill the engine oil.
8. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
