Engine Rear Cover ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Remove the camshaft drive sprockets.
2. Remove the timing belt tensioner locking nut, washer and pulley.
3. Disconnect the knock sensor pigtail (1) from the bracket.
Important: The knock sensor pigtail is guided past the rear timing belt cover by several retaining clips. Note the positioning of the knock sensor pigtail.
4. Remove the knock sensor pigtail from the retaining clips on the rear timing belt cover.
5. Remove the rear timing belt cover bolts.
6. Remove the rear timing belt cover threaded pin (1).
7. Remove the rear timing belt cover.
Installation Procedure
Important: Ensure the knock sensor pigtail does not get pinched between the rear timing belt cover and the engine.
1. Position the rear timing belt cover to the engine.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the rear timing belt cover bolts.
Tighten the rear timing belt cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Coat the threaded pin (1) with thread locking compound, GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent.
4. Install the rear timing belt cover threaded pin (1).
Tighten the rear timing belt cover threaded pin to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
Important: The knock sensor pigtail is guided past the rear timing belt cover by several retaining clips.
Route the knock sensor pigtail as noted during removal.
5. Install the knock sensor pigtail into the retaining clips. Ensure that the pigtail does not contact any moving parts.
6. Connect the knock sensor pigtail (1) to the bracket.
7. Install the timing belt tensioner pulley, washer and locking nut.
The locking nut will be tighten to specifications after all final adjustments are made.
8. Install the camshaft drive sprockets.
