Instrument Panel (IP) - Assembly Replacement



IP Assembly Replacement

Tools Required

J 42640 Steering Wheel Anti-Rotation Pin


Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution.

1. Disable SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (with UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)).
3. Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement).
5. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Removal and Replacement).




7. Disconnect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at the top, outside corners of IP.




8. For RHD only, remove the park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Front (LHD).




9. With the steering wheel centered, install the J 42640 in order to lock the steering column.




10. Remove the steering column to body bolts (1). Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
11. Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.




12. Disconnect the steering column harness connector (1).




13. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) for the tilt and telescoping module, to the main body harness, if equipped.




14. Disconnect the body harness connection (1) and the audio antenna connection (2), which are located next to the IP extension.




15. Remove the IP extension bolts (1).




16. Remove IP carrier to cowl nuts (1).




17. Remove the bolts (2) from the left and right IP carrier to hinge pillar.
18. Remove the IP assembly (3) from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. Install the IP assembly (3) to the vehicle.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2. Install the IP assembly to hinge pillar bolts (2).

Tighten the IP carrier bolts (2) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





3. Install the IP carrier to cowl nuts (1).

Tighten the IP carrier to cowl nuts (1) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





4. Install the IP extension bolts (1).

Tighten the IP extension bolts (1) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





5. Install the steering column support bolts (1). Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
6. Install the steering shaft to the steering column. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.




7. Remove the J 42640 from the steering column.




8. Connect the steering column main harness electrical connector (1).




9. Connect the tilt and telescoping module electrical connector (1), if equipped.




10. Connect the body harness electrical connector (1) and the audio antenna connection (2).




11. For RHD, Install the park brake cable to the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Front (LHD).




12. Connect the IP to body electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of IP.
13. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
14. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair).
15. Install the drivers knee bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
16. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (with UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)).
17. Install the left and right IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement).
18. Enable the SIR.
