Console Center - Replacement (UV8)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Remove the storage bins or the CD changer as needed.
4. Remove the console trim plate.
5. Remove the left console trim panel.
6. Remove the right console trim panel.
7. Disconnect the shifter cable from the shifter and remove the fastener that secures the shift cable to the console bracket. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
8. Disconnect the park lock cable from the shifter.
9. Remove the cover (1) from the floor of the storage bin.




10. Remove the console tray insert from the console tray (2).
11. Remove the interface card from the console tray insert.
12. Disconnect the interface card electrical connector.




13. Remove the rear HVAC control. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement - Auxiliary in HVAC-Automatic.
14. Remove the ashtray from the rear of the center console.
15. Remove the center console endcap fasteners (1 2).
16. Remove the center console endcap.
17. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the coil cord.
18. Remove the cellular phone wiring from the center console.




19. Remove the console tray (2).




20. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1, 2, 3) from the center console.
21. Move both front seats to the rear in order to access the front console to floor fasteners.




22. Remove the 2 fasteners (1) that secure the metal bracket arms to the floor.
23. Remove the 2 nuts (2) from the console rear to the floor pan.




24. Remove the 2 fasteners (2) from the console (1) to the lower instrument panel (IP).

NOTE: When removing or installing the center console, do not allow the metal brackets to scrape the seats and damage the material.

25. Lift up the rear of the console and slide the console rearward.
26. Remove the center console from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the front floor console to the vehicle.
2. Route the cellular phone wiring through the center console to the tray insert area.
3. Connect the coaxial cable to the coil cord.
4. Connect the interface card electrical connector.
5. Install the center console endcap (3).
6. Install the center console endcap fasteners (1, 2).
7. Tighten the fasteners (1 2) fully driven, seated, but not stripped.
8. Install the auxiliary HVAC control. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement - Auxiliary in HVAC-Automatic.
9. Install the ashtray to the center console.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




10. Install the interface card to the console tray insert.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in).

11. Install the console tray insert to the console tray (2).
12. Connect the center console electrical connectors.
13. Lift up on the rear of the center console (1) and slide the console forward in order to align the front edges of the center console with the lower IP.
Place the rear of the center console onto the rear studs.




14. Install the 2 fasteners (2) from the center console (1) to lower IP.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners (2) to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




15. Install the 2 nuts (2) to the floor studs in the center console compartment.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners (2) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

16. Install the fasteners (1) to the metal bracket arms on the console.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners (1) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




17. Connect the electrical connectors (1,2,3) on both sides of the console.




18. Install the cover (1) to the floor of the storage bin.
19. Install the park lock cable to the shifter.
20. Connect the shift cable to the shifter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
21. Install the left console panel.
22. Install the right console panel.
23. Install the console trim plate.
24. Install the storage bins or the CD changer as needed.
25. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
