BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Open the electrical center cover and push the tab to release the electrical center from the battery.
2. Open the battery isolator.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Remove the power distribution leads from the positive battery cable.
5. Disconnect the positive battery cable:
^ Loosen the clamp bolt.
^ Use a twisting motion to release the clamp.
^ Use a universal puller if the clamp does not easily release.
6. Remove the front engine wiring harness cover.
7. Remove the positive battery cable from the front engine wiring harness.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.




9. Remove the positive battery cable starter motor lead nut (1) from the starter.
10. Remove the positive battery cable lead from the starter.
11. Remove the starter solenoid terminal lead nut (2) from the starter.
12. Remove the starter solenoid terminal lead from the starter.




13. Remove the positive battery cable nut (2) from the generator.
14. Remove the positive battery cable from the generator.
15. Remove the electrical tape from the wiring harness.
16. Remove the positive battery cable from the wiring harness.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the positive battery cable to the wiring harness.
2. Install the electrical tape to the wiring harness.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the positive battery cable to the generator.
4. Install the positive battery cable nut (2) to the generator.

Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable nut (2) to 8 N.m (71 lb in).




5. Install the starter solenoid terminal lead to the starter.
6. Install the starter solenoid terminal lead nut (2) to the starter.

Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid terminal lead nut (2) to 4 N.m (35 lb in).

7. Install the positive battery cable lead to the starter.
8. Install the positive battery cable starter motor lead nut (1) to the starter.

Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable starter motor lead nut (1) to 13 N.m (115 lb in).

9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Install the positive battery cable to the front engine wiring harness.
11. Install the front engine wiring harness cover.




12. Connect the positive battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

13. Install the power distribution leads to the battery positive cable clamp.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
15. Close the battery isolator.
16. Install the electrical center to the battery and close the cover.
