Battery Cable Replacement (Negative)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Open the electrical center cover and push the tab to release the electrical center from the battery.
2. Open the battery isolator.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Remove the harness ground wires from the negative battery cable.
5. Remove the tie straps retaining the battery negative cable.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
7. Remove the negative battery cable bracket bolt (2).
8. Remove negative battery cable (1) from the A/C compressor bracket.
9. Attach a three foot length of mechanic's wire to the end of the negative battery cable.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Pull the negative battery cable up until the mechanic's wire is visible.
12. Remove the mechanic's wire from the negative battery cable.

IMPORTANT: Leave the mechanic's wire in place in the vehicle for the next step so that the negative battery cable can be properly routed behind the thermostat housing extension and the power steering pump.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the mechanic's wire to the new negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle
3. Pull the mechanic's wire down until the negative battery cable is visible.
4. Remove the mechanic's wire from the negative battery cable.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the negative battery cable (1) to the A/C compressor bracket.
6. Install the negative battery cable bracket bolt (2).

Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bracket bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the tie straps to the negative battery cable.
9. Install the harness ground wires to the negative battery cable.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Close the battery isolator.
12. Install the electrical center to the battery and close the cover.
