Expansion Valve: Service and Repair
THERMAL EXPANSION VALVE REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.
3. Remove the LF floor air outlet duct.
4. Remove the recirculation actuator solenoid screw
5. Remove the hot water bypass valve solenoid screw.
6. Disconnect the solenoid electrical connectors.
7. Position the solenoids out of the way.
8. Remove the evaporator access panel screws.
9. Remove the evaporator access panel.
10. Remove the evaporator tube screw.
11. Remove the evaporator tube.
12. Remove the TXV screws.
13. Remove the TXV.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the TXV.
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. install the TXV screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
3. Install the evaporator tube:
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
4. Install the evaporator tube screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
5. Install the evaporator access panel.
6. Install the evaporator access panel screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).
7. Connect the solenoid electrical connectors.
8. Position the heater water valve electric vacuum solenoid to the HVAC module.
9. Install the heater water valve vacuum solenoid screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).
10. Position the recirculation actuator electric vacuum solenoid to the HVAC module.
11. Install the recirculation actuator vacuum solenoid screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).
12. Install the LF floor air outlet.
13. Install the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.
Tighten
Tighter the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
15. Leak test the fittings of the Component using J 39400-A.
