Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the engine assembly.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.
3. Remove the exhaust manifold lower heat shield.
4. Remove the exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts.
5. Remove the exhaust manifold upper heat shield.





6. Remove the AIR pipe bolts (1).
7. Remove the AIR pipe (2) from the exhaust manifold.





8. Remove the coolant pipe (3) and the engine lift bracket bolt (2) from the cylinder head.
9. Remove the oil level indicator tube (4).
10. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
11. Remove the exhaust manifold.
12. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
13. Clean the exhaust manifold mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the exhaust manifold.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the oil level indicator tube (4).
5. Install the coolant pipe (3) and the engine lift bracket bolt (2) to the cylinder head. Ensure the bolt (2) passes through all of the attached components.
Tighten the coolant pipe engine lift bracket bolt (2) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the AIR injection pipe to the exhaust manifold.
7. Coat the AIR injection pipe bolts with high temperature anti-seize compound, GM P/N 12371386 or equivalent.





8. Install the AIR injection pipe bolts (1).
Tighten the AIR injection pipe bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





9. Install the exhaust manifold upper heat shield.
10. Coat the exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts with high temperature anti-seize compound, GM P/N 12371386 or equivalent.
11. Install the exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts.
Tighten the exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
12. Install the exhaust manifold lower heat shield.
13. Coat the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts with high temperature anti-seize compound, GM P/N 12371386 or equivalent.
14. Install the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.
Tighten the heat shield bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
15. Install the engine assembly.
