Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement- Rear^ Tools Required
- J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the rear brake rotor.
4. Remove the wheel bearing hub.
5. Remove the parking brake shoes with the related hardware.
6. Use the J 42072 to remove the backing plate bolts (1) from the brake backing plate (2).
7. Remove the parking brake anchor (3) from the brake backing plate (2).
8. Remove the brake backing plate (2) from the axle control arm (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the park brake shoe retaining pins, if removed.
2. Install the brake backing plate (2) to the axle control arm (1).
3. Install the parking brake anchor (3) to the brake backing plate (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Use the J 42072 to install the backing plate bolts (1) to the brake backing plate (2).
Tighten the backing plate bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the parking brake shoes with the related hardware.
6. Install the wheel bearing hub.
7. Install the rear brake rotor.
8. Test the parking brake operation.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
10. Lower the vehicle.
