Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
2. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)) .
3. Remove the right and the left insulator panels. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (RHD) or Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (RHD).
4. Remove the left and the right instrument panel (IP) endcaps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement) .
5. Remove the passenger side inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
6. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (RHD).
7. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
8. Remove the radio or the navigation display module. Refer to Radio Replacement (w/o UY4, U45) Radio Replacement (UY4) or Navigation Display Module Replacement in Entertainment.
9. Remove the A/C heater control head. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
10. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
11. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD) in Lighting Systems.
12. Remove the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement (LHD).




13. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
14. Disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (RHD) Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD) in Automatic Transmission.
15. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement) .
16. Remove the IP retaining screws from the ends of the retainer.




17. Remove the fasteners from the IP retainer. One fastener (1) is located in the opening for the fuel/rear compartment release switch.
18. Remove the retaining bolts from the IP retainer to the lower support bracket.
19. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as necessary.
Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
Remove the IP assembly.



Installation Procedure

1. Partially install the IP retainer to the carrier.
Connect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
2. Guide the wiring through the IP retainer openings.
Align the IP retainer with the carrier. Complete the installation.
3. Install the retaining bolts from the IP retainer to the lower support bracket.




4. Install the fasteners to the IP retainer. One fastener (1) is located in the opening for the fuel/rear compartment release switch.
5. Install the IP retaining screws into the ends of the retainer.
6. Install the IP storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement) .
7. Connect the park lock cable to the ignition switch. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (RHD) Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD) .




8. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector.
9. Install the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement (LHD).
10. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD) in Lighting Systems.
11. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
12. Install the AC/heater control head. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
13. Install the radio or the navigation display module. Refer to Radio Replacement (w/o UY4, U45) Radio Replacement (UY4) or Navigation Display Module Replacement in Entertainment.
14. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
15. Install the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (RHD).
16. Install the passenger side inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
17. Install the left and the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (RHD) or Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (LHD))Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (RHD).
18. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)) .
19. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
