Rear Compartment Lid Hinge Torque Rod Replacement

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41358-A Torque Rod Adjuster





1. Prop open the rear compartment lid (1) in the fully up position.
2. Remove the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement (Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement) .

Caution: When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

3. Use the J 41358-A in order to disconnect the torque rod (5) from the rear compartment lid hinge (3).



Installation Procedure





1. Ensure the torque rod (5) is properly positioned across the vehicle at the pivot points.

Caution: When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

2. Use the J 41358-A in order to install the torque rod (5) to the adjustment notch on the hinge (3).
3. Inspect the operating effort.
As necessary, adjust the torque rod (5) by completing the following steps:

1. Open the rear compartment lid (1).
2. Position the end of the torque rod (5) on the hinge (3) as necessary.

* Moving the torque rod (5) to a lower notch on the hinge (3) increases the effort in raising the lid (1), but decreases the effort in closing the lid.
* Moving the torque rod (5) to a higher notch on the hinge (3) decreases the effort in raising the lid (1), but increases the effort in closing the lid.


4. Install the rear compartment trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement (Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement) .
