Compressor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System
1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Vehicle Lifting.
5. Remove the front air deflector.
6. Remove the right front tire.
7. Remove the compressor splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
8. Remove the right wheelhouse extension.
9. Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from frame.
10. Remove the bolt that secures the compressor hose assembly (1).
11. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
12. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
13. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
14. Rotate the compressor so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
15. Remove the compressor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Tester
1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
2. Install mounting stud.
3. Install the remaining mounting fasteners.
4. Install the compressor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
5. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
6. Connect the compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose assembly (1) to the compressor to 30 N.m (20 lb ft).
7. Connect the brake line retaining clip to the frame.
8. Install the compressor splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
9. Install right front tire.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
12. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing. Leak Testing
13. Install the wheelhouse extension.
14. Install the front air deflector.
