Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





2. Remove the nuts from the catalytic converter to the exhaust downpipe.





3. Remove the four bolts securing the exhaust downpipe to the exhaust manifold.
4. Remove the exhaust downpipe.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the exhaust downpipe.
2. Install the four bolts securing the exhaust downpipe to exhaust manifold.

Important: Do not tighten the bolts at this time.





3. Install the nuts from the catalytic converter to the exhaust downpipe.
4. Tighten the catalytic converter bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the catalytic converter bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





5. Tighten the exhaust downpipe to exhaust manifold bolts.
Tighten the two right exhaust downpipe to exhaust manifold bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and the left exhaust downpipe to exhaust manifold bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

Important: When correctly aligned the flanges for the converter and the exhaust manifold rear pipe are parallel. If this condition does not exist, realign the exhaust manifold rear pipe by loosening the exhaust manifold bolts and repositioning the exhaust manifold rear pipe.

6. Lower the vehicle.
