Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
2. Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
3. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement.
4. Remove the oil pan bolts.
Important: The oil pan gasket is reusable unless damaged. Do not remove the gasket from the oil pan groove unless replacement is required.
5. Remove the oil pan.
6. Clean and inspect the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Clean and Inspect in Engine / Service and Repair / Unit Repair.
Installation Procedure
Important: Once the oil pan seal is exposed to oil it will expand and no longer stay in the groove without wrinkles. If this condition exists, replace it with a new seal.
1. If required, install a new oil pan seal using the following procedure:
1.1. Clean any residual oil from the seal groove.
1.2. Work the seal into the pan groove in both directions around the pan.
2. Position the oil pan to the crankcase.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) in the sequence shown.
4. Install the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement.
5. Install the transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Refill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
