Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair



REMOVAL PROCEDURE



1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Remove the radio or the navigation display module.
3. Remove the AC/heater control head.
4. Insert the ignition key and turn the ignition switch to RUN.
5. Look through the radio opening in the Instrument Panel (IP) and locate the release button (1) on the side of the switch.
6. Depress and hold the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (located on the RH lower side of the ignition switch), using a flat bladed tool or other suitable tool.




7. Pull on the ignition cylinder to remove.




8. Release the retainers from the ignition cylinder bezel.




9. Slide the reader/exciter (4) and the cylinder cover (2) off the ignition cylinder.
10. Release the retainers from the light pipe (3) to the cylinder.




INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ignition cylinder cover (2) and the light pipe (3) onto the ignition cylinder and engage the retainers.
2. Slide the reader/exciter (4) onto the ignition cylinder and align to the slot on the cylinder.
3. Install the ignition cylinder bezel to the cylinder and engage the retainers.




4. Insert the ignition lock cylinder (1) with the key installed into the ignition switch (2).
5. Press the ignition lock cylinder into place. The lock cylinder retaining tab will produce an audible click.
6. Check to be sure that the ignition lock cylinder is fully engaged.
^ Use light force to pull lock cylinder and attempt to remove it.
^ The lock cylinder should not be removable.
7. Turn the ignition to LOCK, then remove the key.
8. Install the AC/heater control head.
9. Install the radio or the navigation display module.
10. Release the parking brake.
11. Check the ignition switch for proper operation in all positions.
