Engine Oil Life System
Engine Oil Life MonitorThe Fluid Life Indexes are calculated by the PCM. The PCM uses many engine parameters to determine the percentage of fluid life remaining for the engine oil and transaxle fluid. The fluid life indexes are stored in the EEPROM of the PCM. When the PCM is disconnected from power these indexes will remain in memory. The indexes may not get stored if the PCM is disconnected from power within 30 seconds of the ignition being switched to OFF.
The engine oil life index can be reset with a scan tool and with the reset function of the DIC. The DIC can reset engine oil life only to 100 percent. A scan tool can reset engine oil life in 10 percent increments.
The transaxle fluid life index can also be reset with the reset function of the DIC. CHANGE TRANS FLUID Message
Oil Life Calculation
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5,000 km (3,000 miles) and 12,500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message may be displayed before 5,000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12,500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5,000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Note: Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed, even if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message didn't come on.
Resetting Procedure
1. Press the INFO button on the DIC control panel in order to display the ENGINE OIL LIFE message.
2. Press and hold the INFO RESET button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.
