Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

2. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
3. Remove the console.
4. Remove the instrument panel center trim plate.
5. Remove the radio or the navigation display module.
6. Remove the AC/heater control head.
7. Remove the passenger side sound insulator.
8. Remove the instrument panel endcaps.
9. Remove the side window air outlets.
10. Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad.
11. Remove the defroster grille.
12. Remove the knee bolster.
13. Disconnect the body to instrument panel electrical connectors (1) at the top outside corners of the instrument panel.




14. Disconnect the HVAC harness electrical connector near the blower motor.
15. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in connector.
16. Disconnect the cigar lighter/ashtray lamp harness retainer push pin from bracket.
17. Remove the steering column.
18. Disconnect the front parking brake cable housing from the parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement (Front Cable) in Park Brake.
19. Remove the instrument panel center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.




20. Remove the fasteners (1) from the steering column support bracket to the instrument panel carrier.




21. Remove the instrument panel carrier (1) to cowl fasteners.
22. Remove the 6 fasteners (2) from the instrument panel carrier to hinge pillar.




23. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the vehicle.
24. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim panel.
25. Remove the passenger side inflator module from the instrument panel retainer.
26. Remove the driver side trim plate.
27. Remove the instrument panel cluster.
28. Remove the passenger side instrument panel trim plate from the instrument panel carrier.
29. Remove the ignition switch from the instrument panel.
30. Remove the fog lamp switch.
31. Remove the fuel door/rear compartment release switch.
32. Remove the instrument panel storage compartment from the instrument panel.
33. Remove the fasteners retaining the instrument panel retainer to the carrier.
34. Partially remove the instrument panel retainer from the carrier. Guide the wiring through the openings.
35. Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector. Complete the instrument panel retainer removal.
36. Remove the inside temperature sensor from the instrument panel retainer.
37. Disconnect the park lock cable from the instrument panel. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD) or Park Lock Cable Replacement (RHD) in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.
38. Remove the A/C temperature sensors from the left and right air distribution duct.
39. Remove the fasteners retaining the left and right air distribution duct.
Remove the ducts.
40. Remove the fasteners from the left and right side window defroster ducts. Remove the ducts.
41. Remove the theft deterrent module and mounting bracket from the instrument panel carrier.
42. Remove the park brake assembly from the carrier.
43. Remove the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument panel carrier.
44. Remove the slip bracket fasteners (1). Remove the slip brackets (2) from the instrument panel carrier.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE



1. Install the slip brackets (2) to the instrument panel carrier.
Loosely install the slip bracket fasteners (1).




2. Install the instrument panel wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
3. Install the park brake assembly to the carrier.
4. Install the theft deterrent module and mounting bracket to the instrument panel carrier.
5. Install the left and right side window defroster ducts.
6. Install the defroster duct fasteners.
7. Install the left and right air distribution ducts.
8. Install the air distribution duct fasteners.
9. Install the A/C temperature sensors to the left and right air distribution duct.
10. Connect the park lock cable to the instrument panel. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD) or Park Lock Cable Replacement (RHD) in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.
11. Install the inside temperature sensor to the instrument panel retainer.
12. Partially install the instrument panel retainer. Connect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
13. Guide the wiring through the openings.
14. Complete instrument panel retainer Installation.
15. Install the instrument panel retainer to the instrument panel carrier fasteners.
16. Install the instrument panel storage compartment.
17. Install the fuel door/rear compartment release switch.
18. Install the fog lamp switch.
19. Install the ignition switch to the instrument panel.
20. Install the passenger side instrument panel trim plate to the instrument panel carrier.
21. Install the instrument panel cluster.
22. Install the driver side trim plate.
23. Install the passenger side inflator module to the instrument panel retainer.
24. Install the instrument panel cluster trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

26. Install the fasteners (2) from the instrument panel carrier to hinge pillar.

Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel carrier nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




27. Install the instrument panel carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

Tighten
Tighten the carrier to cowl fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




28. Tighten the previously installed fasteners to the slip brackets.

Tighten
Tighten the bracket fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

29. Install the fasteners (1) from the steering column support (2) to the instrument panel carrier.

Tighten
Tighten the to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




30. Install the instrument panel center support bracket fasteners (1) to the floor bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel center support bracket fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




31. Connect the front parking brake cable housing to the parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement (Front Cable) in Park Brake.
32. Install the steering column.
33. Connect the cigar lighter/ashtray lamp harness retainer push pin to the retaining bracket.
34. Connect the radio antenna lead-in connector.
35. Connect the HVAC harness electrical connector.
36. Connect the body to instrument panel electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of instrument panel.
37. Install the knee bolster.
38. Install the defroster grille.
39. Install the instrument panel upper trim pad.
40. Install the side window air outlets.
41. Install the instrument panel endcaps.
42. Install the passenger side sound insulator.
43. Install the AC/heater control head.
44. Install the radio or the navigation display module.
45. Install the instrument panel center trim plate.
46. Install the console.
47. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
48. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
