Shifter A/T: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement - Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
2. Remove the rear air duct front support nuts (1).
3. Remove the console rear support nuts (2).
4. Remove the supports (4).
5. Slide the air duct rearward in order to remove.
6. Disconnect the automatic transmission control electrical connector.
7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





8. Remove the shift lever rod from shift lever. Remove the clip and slide rod off of lever.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Drill out the five rivets (2) attaching the control from the body.
11. Remove the automatic transmission control (1) from body.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the automatic transmission control (1) to body.
2. Install the five rivets (2) attaching control to body.
3. Raise the vehicle.





4. Install the shift lever rod to shift lever. Slide the rod onto lever and install clip.
5. Install the electrical connector to automatic transmission control.
6. Install the rear air duct by sliding forward.
7. Install the console rear support (4).
8. Install the rear air duct front support and console rear support and attaching nuts (1, 2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

^ Tighten the air duct front support nuts (1) to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
^ Tighten the console rear support and attaching nuts (2) to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
9. Install the console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement - Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
10. Adjust the shift lever rod. Refer to Shift Control Linkage Adjustment.
