Selector Shaft: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Place the shift control lever in Neutral.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
4. Remove the support transmission with a transmission jack.
5. Remove the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
6. Lower the transmission enough to provide access to switch.
7. Remove the switch cover.
8. Remove the switch wire harness connector (1) from bracket (2). Use a suitable size tool to pry off.
9. Remove the transmission control selector shaft nut.
10. Remove the transmission control selector shaft lever from shaft.
11. Remove the switch bolts (1).
12. Remove the switch (2) from transmission.
Installation Procedure
1. Install switch, (2) to transmission.
2. Install the switch bolts (1) loosely.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
^ Tighten the switch bolts (1) to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
3. Install the transmission control selector shaft lever to shaft.
4. Install the transmission control selector shaft nut.
5. Install the switch wire harness connector (1) to bracket (2). Use a plastic tie strap if connector clip is broken.
6. Install the switch cover.
7. Raise the transmission into position.
8. Install transmission crossmember to body bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission crossmember to body bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
9. Remove the transmission jack.
10. Install the exhaust muffler-to-catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
11. Lower the vehicle.
Switch Adjustment
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Position the selector to N.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the transmission cover.
5. Remove the cover from the selector lever position switch.
6. Remove the nut form the transmission selector lever shaft.
7. Disconnect the mode switch electrical connector.
8. Connect a multimeter to terminal E and H on the mode switch electrical connector.
9. Loosen both transmission control selector switch bolts.
10. Rotate the mode switch slightly in both directions to determine the range of electrical contract (approximately 5 degrees).
11. Position the mode switch in the middle of the contact range.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
^ Tighten the transmission control selector switch bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
12. Remove the multimeter and reconnect the wiring harness.
13. Install the selector intermediate lever to the selector lever shaft.
^ Tighten the selector intermediate lever nut to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
14. Install the selector lever position switch cover.
15. Install the transmission cover.
16. Lower the vehicle.
