Water Pump Replacement


Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the intake air resonator.





4. Loosen, but do not remove the water pump pulley bolts.
5. Remove the front timing belt cover.
6. Remove the water pump pulley.
7. Remove the water pump bolts. Important: Use a catch basin to prevent the escaping coolant from contacting the timing belt.
8. Remove the water pump.
9. Clean the engine block sealing surfaces.


Installation Procedure
1. Coat the seal ring of the water pump with silicone grease, GM P/N 12345579 or equivalent.
2. Install the water pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the water pump bolts.
^ Tighten the water pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the water pump pulley.
5. Install the front timing belt cover.
6. Install the intake air resonator.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Reprogram the applicable accessories. Refer to Reprogramming Accessories After Battery Disconnect in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Warning Indicators.
9. Refill the cooling system.
