Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tool Required
- J 42072 Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover





1. Remove the wheel bearing hub from the control arm.
2. Remove the parking brake shoes with the related hardware.
3. Use the J 42072 to remove the backing plate bolts (1) from the brake backing plate (2).





4. Remove the parking brake anchor (2) from the brake backing plate (1).
5. Remove the brake backing plate (1) from the rear axle control arm (3).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the park brake shoe retaining pins if removed.





2. Install the brake backing plate (1) to the rear axle control arm (3).
3. Install the parking brake anchor (2) to the brake backing plate (1).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Use the J 42072 to install the backing plate bolts (1) to the brake backing plate (2).
^ Tighten the backing plate bolts (1) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the parking brake shoes with the related hardware.
6. Install the wheel bearing hub to the control arm.

IMPORTANT: Ensure the rear wheels still turn on the 4th notch of the parking brake application. Ensure the rear wheel are tight on the 7th notch of the parking brake application.

7. Test the parking brake operation and state of adjustment.
