Circuit Description

Eight steering wheel control switches control some audio, HVAC, or cellular telephone functions from the steering wheel. The steering wheel controls are configured as a resistor network. Each switch has a unique resistance value.

When the ignition switch is in the RUN or in the ACCESSORY position, ignition positive voltage is provided to the steering wheel controls from the rear compartment fuse block CLUSTER fuse through the steering column fuse holder SWITCH fuse (at the base of the steering column) and the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil on CKT 240 (ORN). Press a steering wheel control switch in order to pass voltage through the resistor(s) to the instrument cluster on CKT 1796 (DK BLU). The instrument cluster processes the value and sends a message over the class 2 serial data line on CKT 1807 (PPL) to the HVAC and audio system in order to control the proper function.
