Accessing and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE: The following information is to be used for reference when directed by the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Do not attempt to diagnose an ABS/TCS/ICCS condition starting here.

The Electronic Brake/Traction Control Module (EBTCM) can display its Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s through the use of the On-Board Diagnostic capabilities, or the use of a scan tool. In almost all instances, diagnosis, information display, and system/component actuation will be described using a scan tool. The Computer System Diagnosis contains information on displaying the DTCs with the On-Board Diagnostic system.

The scan tool, when plugged into the DLC, becomes part of the vehicle's electronic system. The scan tool can perform the following functions:
- Display ABS/TCS/ICCS data.
- Display and clear ABS/TCS/ICCS data diagnostic trouble codes.
- Control ABS/TCS/ICCS components.
- Perform extensive ABS/TCS/ICCS diagnostics.
- Provide diagnostic testing for intermittent ABS/TCS/ICCS conditions.

NOTE: Refer to scan tool manual for complete information on scan tool diagnostics, and the proper procedure for running these tests.
