SIR Steering Wheel and Column - General Information

This steering wheel and column section covers the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) procedures and specific On-Vehicle Service procedures. When servicing a vehicle equipped with SIR, pay close attention to all NOTICES and CAUTIONS. For descriptions and additional information regarding the SIR System, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT. Two different steering columns are utilized, depending on whether the car is equipped with column shift or console shift. Unit repair procedures for these two columns are different. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPAIR - COLUMN SHIFT and STEERING COLUMN REPAIR - FLOOR SHIFT.
