Apply Brake to Shift Message

The Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock (BTSI) system requires that the regular service brake be applied to shift the vehicle out of Park. The PCM monitors the brake switch and the transmission position and broadcasts this information to the IPC via Class 2 serial data. If the transmission is in Park and the brake is not "ON," this message will be displayed.

Once this message is displayed, it will continue to be displayed until the brake is applied or the "INFORMATION" or "RESET" button is pressed. This message has a minimum display time of 5 seconds regardless of brake position.

The "APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT" message can be canceled by pressing the "OFF" and "COOLER" buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. Once the message is canceled, it can be brought back with the same procedure.
