Transaxle Side Seals
REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tool Required:
- J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool
- J 42080 Transmission Extension Housing Seal Installer
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the propeller shaft coupling bolts.
3. Remove the propeller shaft coupling from drive flange. Use a screwdriver to pry propeller shaft coupling away from drive flange.
4. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install onto drive flange using nuts and bolts supplied with tool.
- Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to remove drive shaft flange nut.
- Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to hod drive flange while using a 30 mm deepwell socket to remove nut.
5. Discard the nut.
6. Remove the drive flange from transmission output shaft.
7. Use a screwdriver to pry out case extension seal.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install new seal into case extension.
2. Install the drive shaft flange to output shaft.
3. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install the drive flange nut.
A. Use a new service replacement nut.
B. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool to hold drive flange while tightening nut.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Tighten the drive flange nut to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the propeller shaft coupling to drive flange.
5. Install the propeller shaft coupling bolts.
- Tighten the propeller shaft coupling bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
6. Lower the vehicle.
